Mount Cinnamon Resort hosts new culinary festival in Grenada

One of Grenada’s most luxurious havens, Mount Cinnamon Resort & Beach Club is to host its first Spice Island Culinary Adventure Week with Chef Will Torrent from 21-28 September 2019.

Will Torrent is one of the leading pastry and chocolate experts in the UK and has worked with top chefs including Heston Blumenthal and Jamie Oliver.

The week-long culinary celebration at the resort in Grenada is the first of its kind in the West Indies, and the event aims to promote the extensive food production that the island has to offer, alongside the brilliant restaurants and activities available at Mount Cinnamon Resort. The week will include island tours, live cooking demonstrations, and tastings of local ingredients led by Torrent, as well as time to relax in the beautiful surroundings of the hotel.

Guests who book the Culinary Adventure Week will enjoy experiences including

  • A trip to the Laura Herb & Spice Garden, where Grenada’s finest spices will be discovered before lunch at the stunning Azzura Castle

  • A day trip and chocolate tasting at the beautiful Belmont Estate, where guests will learn about the ‘bean to bar’ chocolate production process which begins with the cracking of cocoa pods a the plantation

  • A tour to the River Antoine Rum Distillery, which has produced bottles of rum since 1785. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about the harvesting of sugar cane and the fermentation and bottling process – and tasting

Other exciting additions to the Culinary Adventure Week programme include a cocktail party followed by a welcome dinner, a half-day sailing trip on a vintage vessel and a Beach BBQ dinner and bonfire complete with local live music to finish the week in style. Throughout the week guests will learn new cooking techniques, create new dishes and get under the skin of Grenada’s food culture.

For the duration of their stay, guests will be treated to accommodation in one of the luxurious Cinnamon Suites and will also have full access to Mount Cinnamon’s Beach Cabana, non-motorized watersports, tennis and fitness, spa and yoga facilities.

Will Torrent feels passionately that this week is as much about food as it is about relaxation and winter sun. He said: “Following my previous involvement with The Grenada Chocolate Festival, I am delighted to return to both Grenada and to Mount Cinnamon Resort. I am incredibly passionate about chocolate but also the spices, the rum, and the other great foodie finds available. We are working with producers all over Grenada to showcase the best of the Island.”

Mark Kitchen, General Manager at Mount Cinnamon Resort & Beach Club adds: “We are thrilled to be welcoming Will home to the resort. This idea was first put together by the two of us over a rum punch at the hotel, so we are excited to bring the Culinary Adventure Week programme to life.”
